The B5Media network:

Do I have a cold or flu?

And does it really matter at this point?  It’s March Break time here in B.C. and so I had my kids over for the first half of Break.  Of course they both decided to get sick in the days before I picked them up and very kindly shared their germs with me (nothing like being trapped in a car with coughing kids).

Sunday it hit me.  Not hard at first, but hard enough for me to know I was going to be in trouble soon.  Well, Monday I was just toast.  Chills, coughing, more snot and mucus that should come out of a person.

Tuesday was the day I had to take the kids back.  Tuesday I really shouldn’t have been driving.  Nope, it wasn’t the cold medications (I held off that day), I was just completely drained of energy and rather out of it.  When I finally got home at 4:30 I collapsed in bed and slept.

Wednesday, whoa.  I mean talk about an out of body experience.  I was so not “there”.  Don’t know where I was, but it wasn’t my happy place that’s for darn sure.

I’m better today.  Nowhere close to 100%.  My ears have plugged solid and I am doing a work/nap kind of thing.  So I wondered today, since I can think cogent thoughts today, did I have a really bad cold or flu?

Is it a Cold or the Flu?

The Roche site (above) offered the best check list I found.  Yeah they make Tamiflu (aka Tummyflu … as we used to call it at Glaxo, since a side effect is nausea and vomiting), but the info is good. The Lung Association and CDC didn’t offer much.  An Australian MSN site had some good info though.

Given the info I found, I still don’t know.  Lot’s of cross-over.  Body aches?  Oh yeah.  Productive cough?  I’ll just say yes and save you the details.  Chills? Yeah.  Anyway, I do feel like I’m on the mend and am taking it easy.  Thinking I was better on Tuesday was my downfall.  I just have to let this thing go through my body.

On the up side it bumped my quit date from April 1 to well, Tuesday?  Dunno, but I have no desire to smoke.  None.  So, maybe this isn’t all bad.
