Are you hitting your medication threshold?

No, I don’t mean that.  What I mean is, are you taking enough of your medication for it to work properly?  Of course, you need to take your medication as prescribed.  Don’t even think about not doing that.  I learned something, though, yesterday about one of my medications.  As you know I suffer from depression and take medication for it.  I recently switched to a new one and it was working okay.  Not great, just okay.  I went in, chatted with the doctor and he upped the dose a bit.  Within a day or two I felt a huge improvement in my mood and other symptoms.  Yesterday I learned why.  Turns out that this medication, an SNRI instead of my former SSRI, doesn’t have the expected noripenephrine effects until you take over 100 mg.  I was only taking 75 mg before but adding an additional 37.5 mg did the trick.

Amazing huh?  Just boosting the amount of medication I take made a big difference.  So if your medication isn’t working for you, go talk to your doctor.  Tell him/her that it isn’t doing what you expected.  Some medications need to be taken for a while before they kick in (like SSRIs and other antidepressants), others you might just need a touch more to do the job.
